[RESOLVED]Google MAps icons

Hi,

Can anybody help me please where I can download icons for applications which implement  Google Maps?

Thanks

Could you be a bit more specific with exactly what you are looking for?

Google Maps, when implemented, generally runs within an <iframe> element that has a few references that you can add in via Javascript. If you wanted to use custom icons that would appear within your Google Maps, you would just need to explicitly indicate
where the icon files were located at as mentioned in the
Custom Markers tutorial found here
.

Thanks Rion,

But I have seen that site, and I need some other types of icons, for example for a car crash or for utility work..

These icons will most likely not be built-in to Google Maps (that I am aware) and you may have to use custom icons similar to the tutorial mentioned earlier. Have you tried simply doing an Image Search within your favorite search engine and indicating
that you are only looking for icons :

hi natasha,

check out the following links, I am sure you will get what you want here :

hope this helps.

Hi Shivi,

Actually, if you click the Search Tools option available on Google’s Image Search and choose
Usage Rights, you select a specific option like Labeled for Reuse and Modification, for which there will be no issues with using any of the images within your application :

Hi you can check this there are plenty of free icon. just you have to spent Some time on it.

You can’t use custom icons on Google maps unless you upgrade it to the pro version

On the other hand, your question does not have anything to do with the ASP.NET. You will get more helpful and specific answers if you post this in Google Map forums.

Thanks Ruchira, I will try

I suppose it depends on what types of icons you are referring to.

I threw together this very basic example a long while ago for an older website which replaces the existing icon on a Google Maps with one that is targeted via an absolute URL :

<!-- Google Maps Reference Here -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=YourKeyHere&sensor=false"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
      function initialize() {
          // Define your map options (and style options)
          var mapOptions = {
                  center: new google.maps.LatLng(30.229587,-93.204381),
                  zoom: 15,
                  mapTypeControl: false,
                  mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
          };
          // Target the map element
          var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map-canvas"), mapOptions);
          // Defines map styles (grayscale map)
          var styles = [{ stylers: [ { saturation: -100 } ]}];
          // Target a custom icon
          var image = 'http://structurex.net/Media/Default/favicon/site.ico';
          // Define the map location
          var myLatLng = new google.maps.LatLng(30.227535,-93.206235);
          // Create a marker on your specific location
          var beachMarker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: myLatLng, map: map, icon: image });
          // Define your styles
          map.setOptions({styles: styles});
       }
       // Initialize your map when your page is loaded
       google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>

which renders something like the following (notice the icon) :
